Next, Listen, read and write

Listen

This is where you practice listening for the sounds in the words.

For example; can you hear the ‘’s’’ sound in ‘’s-u-n’’?

Read

After, read words with the sounds you have learned. For example: If you have learned SATPIN practice reading words such as: as, sat, tip, pass, sap , past etc…

Write

Finally, say a word and have the children write it down.

The best resource for the ‘’Apply’’ aspect of eyfs phonics is the Jolly Phonics word cards. I used them for years to help challenge and expose children to words with letters that they have learnt in a serialised manner.

That’s all folks! This is just the basis if you really want to teach eyfs phonics properly it’s always best to invest in a phonics scheme to follow and practice. Here is a blog where I recommend and review a few.
